Multiple fire departments from the County of Vermilion River were alerted to a structure fire fire around 3 p.m. on Dec. 21.
Firefighters from Dewberry Fire & Rescue and Clandonald Fire worked together to put out a house fire. Additionally, they were assisted by Medavie Health Services West, County Gas, ATCO, and RCMP from Vermilion.
When the first crews arrived, they found a house fully engulfed in flames. They could be seen shooting out of the roof and windows. Firefighters fought the fire from the outside and worked to prevent it spreading to nearby buildings.
Meanwhile, a Voyent Alert was sent out because emergency vehicles were close to Highway 897 and Highway 640.
One person was taken to hospital with minor burns and some smoke inhalation.
By 7 p.m., Dewberry Deputy Chief Ken Haney said the fire was under control. Firefighters were cleaning up and checking for any hidden flames. However, most crews returned to their stations by 8 p.m.
A fire investigator is looking into what caused the fire.
