St. Paul RCMP charge one with murder

St. Paul RCMP were called to respond to a stabbing incident on the Saddle Lake Cree Nation on Jan. 8.

The victim, 61-year-old Garvin Lloyd Chisan, was airlifted by STARS to Edmonton with serious injuries. However, despite medical efforts, Chisan succumbed to his injuries later that day.

The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit was subsequently called in to investigate the case.

On Jan. 10, Jeremy Shaun Cardinal, a 44-year-old resident of Saddle Lake Cree Nation, was formally charged with first-degree murder in connection with Chisan’s death.

Additionally, Cardinal was brought before a Justice of the Peace and remanded into custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 13 at the Alberta Court of Justice in Lac La Biche.
