The Canadian Wildfire Information System still shows two wildfires burning near Onion Lake Cree Nation.

The first one started May 5 and, as of earlier May 7, remains out of control.

It is between Harlan and Fort Pitt, Sask., between Highway 797 and the North Saskatchewan River.

During the last update, the fire burned 1,400 hectares of land, which is approximately the size of Lloydminster.

According to the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre, the fire is being treated with a “modified response.”

The fire management style is described on their website as “using a combination of suppression techniques, including direct and indirect attack as well as monitoring to steer, contain or otherwise manage fire activity within a pre-determined perimeter.”
