Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lloydminster held its first-ever Mega Bike ride on June 10 to raise money and awareness.
“We are finally having our Mega Bike event. We’re so excited,” said the organization’s executive director Jacqueline Weed.

The ride is part of the “Move for Mentoring” fundraiser, which began on May 22.
“The purpose of Mega Bike, as well as our Move for Mentoring fundraiser, is to raise (money) for the mentoring programs we provide to kids in our community,” said Weed.
Participants pedalled together on a large blue bike through the city streets.
Many city staff and dignitaries took part, including Coun. Justin Vance.
“It’s just awesome to show the support from the City of Lloyd to great organizations like Big Brothers Big Sisters,” said Vance. “Glad to be here.”
Vance also said it felt good to be part of a national movement.
“You’ve got to show your support,” he said. “Hopefully, I show my great strength on the bike here.”
According to Weed, building interest in mentoring was the overall goal of the day.
“Maybe community members decide they want to mentor,” she said. “There are always kids on the wait list.
“No special skills are needed, they just have to want to spend time with a child.”
The ride raised thousands of dollars for the organization, which hopes to do it for many years going forward.
