The Lloydminster Lions Club encouraged dog owners to pack Bud Miller All Seasons Park for its annual Walk for Guide Dogs.
The three-kilometre trek through the park on May 25 achieved its goal of raising $1,900 for guide dogs.

Over a dozen dogs joined their people at the event, which Pet Value sponsored.
Border Paws Animal Shelter, which currently houses over a dozen dogs, nearing capacity, brought five dogs for the walk.

A special guest even arrived with his person.
“Zirus” is a Golden Retriever/Lab cross who works as a guide dog for a child locally. According to the mother, who wished to remain anonymous, they now get a full night’s sleep, something they were unable to do before Zirus arrived.

“He’s very protective of our boy and has helped so much,” she said. “My husband and I can now get a full night’s sleep. He does a great job.”
Zirus was trained at the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides facility in Ontario and brought out to the family a couple of years ago.
The club hopes to have an even bigger turnout next year. Their next event is a golf tournament at Rolling Green Fairways on June 13.
